Edwardo (Untitled)
Did you see me last night?
Or did you feel me draw nigh?
It was a tiresome night
I could not rest
And peace eluded me
I drifted fitfully
Then started into wakefulness
Time seemed endless
And I shook the clock three times
Before the greywhite of dawn
Slithered around the blinds
And threw pale shadows on the floor.
I swear I did not sleep
As we all swear
And yet on —
on waking —
Was I aware I had traveled far
I had seen you, talked with you,
Touched your face, and returned.
I am not weary now.
I can face the new day strong
I think you do not know —
Do not remember
But I remember well
In time you may recall
But never understand.
